Modelling Thermal Transport in Manufacturing Processes - ME669A Course description: The objective of this course is to educate students with modelling of thermal transport involved in manufacturing processes. The focus will be on developing a feel about the physical processes, its mathematical description and numerical modelling. In this study, different thermal transport regimes in high energy surface melting processes are identified by a systematic scaling analysis. It is shown that for a very low Prandtl number, the weld pool morphology is predominantly determined by thermal diffusion, whereas advection plays only a marginal role in determining the shape and size of the molten pool.
